FINDING PERSONALITY IN A BRICK
Here is a series of splendid drawings with two things in common:
First, they are all drawings of geometric shapes: buildings comprised of straight lines, flat parallel surfaces and right angles.
Second, despite the fact that each drawing started out as essentially a mechanical drawing, at some key point the artist turned away from the unforgiving laws of perspective, the T square and the triangle, and instead injected the drawing full of character and personality.
The brilliant Bernie Fuchs sketched these buildings in the slums of San Juan. Fuchs seems to have a god-given talent for finding the design in any situation, including this row of squat, ramshackle buildings.
When Rodin drew the massive facade of this building, the shape that interested him the most was not the stone blocks or the massive pillars, but rather the shadow in the doorway. The shadow is insubstantial compared to the weight of the stone structure around it, but it dominates this picture, and enabled Rodin to make a nice, modernistic design.
Cartoonist Jeff MacNelly was a superb draftsman whose understanding of weight, volume and perspective gave his cartoons of buildings and heavy industrial vehicles great credibility. In this typically marvelous example, the geometric shapes of the house have as much humanity as a human face.
In each of these drawings, the artist had to begin with a foundation of traditional knowledge and technical drawing skills, even if those rules were quickly abandoned. Each drawings turned out wonderfully opinionated-- the artists were able to imbue a stone block with character, and portray a brick with personality. There are only a few themes however,that are truly sophisticated in their subtlety, especially when itcomes to music themes. | Thereare literally thousands of blogs out there at the moment that focus onsome aspect of the theme of business. Whether it is the small businessthat is being discussed, or the realms of international business andfinance, there is a blog for everything. Which leads us to Business Magazine. This Wordpress theme isparticularly suited to someone who is planning to put together abusiness news blog. It has a ton of space on there for advertising andmarketing purposes. If you want to run advertising units, there isplenty of room for them. The entire Wordpress template is primed foradvertising purposes. However, it is still a two column theme, so in that sense it ispretty traditional. This means that the conscientious blogger who wantsto deliver good content can do so with an area that is filled withenough white space to make the words important as well as the imagery. The sidebar can be found on the right hand side of the template. Notsurprisingly, this is totally widget compliant, so all of thosecustomisable options that widgets bring to the table can be accessed onthis template too. A good and useful template. |
So Delicious 2.0 Green Wordpress Template
| Backto the clean themes again, and this one is called So Delicious. Thetheme is quite possibly one of the cleanest we have ever seen. There isnot a complete absence of colour. In fact, the skin is a light green.However, the theme seems to be based on an idea of having as littlenoticeable colour as possible, and a real sense of the subtle interplaybetween light and dark. This is also one of the most functional themes we have seen. Thesidebar is on the right, and has enough widget functionality to keepany avid blogger happy. This is a really important consideration for ablogger these days, because widgets not only hep to keep functionality,they can also aid an advertising campaign. As if to reinforce this idea, the designers of the theme haveincluded an area in which Ad sense units can be placed with ease. Thisshows a real commercial feel to the theme, which, while it looksincredibly subtle and non-commercial, can be turned into exactly theopposite with the use of a few widgets and a few Ad Sense embeds. Overall, a great, clean theme, and one which has obviously been geared towards commercial pursuits. |

From the previous theme experience , this is where most people facing problem. So, once again. Follow this instruction.
2. The theme use the TimThumb PHP script to automatically create andresize the thumbnail images, and in order for it to work properly youneed to take note of the following things first:

- Upload the theme from the theme folder into your wp-content/themes folder. Activate it.
- Upload the two plugins (flickrRSS and Twitter for wordpress) fromthe plugins folder into your wp-content/plugins folder. Activate bothplugins.
- Featured Category Name : Insert category name you want to be appearin featured post slideshow. All post from this category will be appearin the slideshow.
- Feedburner ID : Enter your feedburner ID here , so you can use the feedburner email subscription features.
- Twitter ID : Enter your twitter ID here. Your latest twitter post will be appear in the theme
- Youtube Embed Code : Copy youtube video code that you want to appear in the sidebar. Change the video size in the code to “230″ width and “190″ height, sothe video will fit properly into the theme. NOTE: Due to striplashesphp code, You will notice that the youtube code in the theme optionspage will change everytime you change and save the theme options, somake sure you re-enter again the youtube embed code everytime youchange the options.
- Banner Management : This is where you can change and configure your ads blocks.

- Post Thumbnail
- In order to make picture appearon slideshow, you have to add custom fields in each post on the category you set as featured category in the theme options page.
- Make new custom field named “featured” (without the quotes), andenter the image URL as the value. Remember: The image must be hosted onyour domain. Otherways, it won’t work.
- As for the post thumbnail in other post. Use the custom fieldsnamed “thumbnail” and enter the image URL as the value. Again, Theimage must be hosted on your domain. Otherways, it won’t work.
- There’s a cache folder for the thumbnail images located in the themefolder which requires proper write permissions. If your host serverdoesn’t allow this by default, be sure to manually change the /cache/ folder permissions to 777 or 755.
- Use absolute paths for your images in the custom fields. For example http://yourdomain.com/wp-content/uploads/images.jpg
- If your Hosted your site in Hostgator and your image didn’t appearafter following all the instruction. Try to contact hostgator, tellthem the problem and ask them to get ur site whitelisted on themod_security stuff. There’s a security function in hostgator thatprevents the timthumb from working.

Money
How do artists make a living?
Besides the selected few who actually make a living from their work, how can an artist afford to be an artist?
The bottom line is: should art pay for itself? Should it be efficient in an economic sense?
Most practicing artists either have money from their day jobs, or from their families.
The funny thing is: the first group seem heroic, and the second - fakes.
Why? Why is there so much resentment towards people who decide to spend the money they have on doing something they love?
Is it because we, as the public, feel betrayed, as if they stopped playing the game with their audience? After all, if they don't care about (our, or government - which comes out to the same) money, aren't we left aside?
(What's wrong with being left aside? Hm. Of course, this modernist idea can come in handy. But I've been writing about it elsewhere.)
Come think of it - would we feel it wrong for a rich person to buy an expensive car? A big house? So why do we want him to feel guilty for spending the money into something we might actually appreciate? It turns art into a hobby, you say? So what?
Below, completely unrelated (at least not that I know), is the work of Paulo Ventura.
