IN THE SPOTLIGHT: The Shell Art Of Bernard A. Woodman

Renowned shell artist, the late Bernard A. Woodman (1922 -1986), produced a significant amount of work during his lifetime. He was well known for both his stunning Sailors' Valentines and his fine shell work within frames housing prominent paintings from other contempory artists. Mr. Woodman frequently collaborated with American folk artists Ralph and Martha Cahoon.

Bernard A. Woodman is a significant figure in the world of contemporary fine shell art. His work has played a vital role in setting the tone of the value of future contemporary Sailors' Valentines. In 2003, a contemporary 15" Sailors' Valentine by Bernard A. Woodman (site link above) was sold for the unprecedented amount of $21,850.00 at Eldred's Auction Gallery of East Dennis MA.
